What is the Proficiency in Designated Security Duties Course?

Our STCW Course – Proficiency in Designated Security Duties conforms to the STCW 2010 Manila amendments.

Our Proficiency in Designated Security Duties (PDSD) course is set out by the STCW and  Manila amendments 2010 that contain new requirements regarding security training. this course supersedes the Proficiency in Security Awareness

In fact these regulations came into force 1 January 2014 yet many crew members are still not compliant and therefore render the vessel open to being detained by port state control. Training must be undertaken by all seafarers and security personnel who have designated duties under the Ships Security Plan (SSP).

Furthermore all of our training is carried out by instructors with the highest level of maritime security experience so when you come to us for maritime security training of any kind you can be sure you are getting the best in the industry.

Do I need to complete security training to work at sea?

Yes. As part of the Manilla amendments 2010 all seafarers are required to complete security training. The level of training depends on their specific role.

Which course do I need to complete?

(PSA) Proficiency in Security Awareness: Must be undertaken by ALL above not holding a
Designated Security duty on board. This includes Stewards, galley staff, entertainment staff, Pilots, etc.

(PDSD) Proficiency in Designated Security Duties: Must be undertaken by any crew who have designated duties under the Ship Security Plan. Gangway watches, stowaway searches, baggage searches, etc..
